Information Adjustment and the Cybernetics of Afrofuturism the second edition of a performance and installation series centered around the themes of afrosonic gesture. The skin of the sonic palette pulled through space is stretched jazz. The work finds itself on an archipel of the triad of afrofuturism, pessimism and surrealism. I am interested in the surreal and abstraction of the current state of black being, and how worlds can be iterated and abstracted to create an environment that encourages gestural exploration. The cybernetics are inherent in my ritual use of electro-acoustic instrumentation. As a research practice, iteration through improvisational performance, sonic mapping, composition and performance informs an environmental stasis.
In this multichannel edition the sonic content is informed by electronically synthesized sounds and experiential field recordings, carefully curated in space, stretched and rooted along a cosmic timeline. It is the beacon composition for a life long research project. The work investigates how composed and performed soundscapes can become mechanisms for mediation surrounding the body, gesture and black experience.
